Global container shipping company Maersk Line has started pilot testing of a maritime software tool, ShipManager, on five of its vessels. Norway-based shipping classification society DNV GL has developed the software, which is said to deliver increased process efficiency and improved access to and analysis of information. Maersk Line has selected the application as the preferred solution over 26 other ship management platforms for installation onto its self-owned fleet of 250 vessels in 2015.
Software managing director Are Fllesdal Tjnn said: "The implementation of ShipManager on the pilot vessels is a major milestone in the project. We have a full dedicated team working with Maersk Line on the implementation. All the configurations and settings have been agreed upon."
Maersk will use six integrated ShipManager modules of the tool, namely technical, procurement, project, crewing, QHSE and analyser. The ShipManager analyser will provide transparency to the company's fleet manager by extracting data from all the modules for future analysis, according to DNV GL. Maersk Line IT senior project manager Sebastiaan Van den Wijngaert said: "The feedback we have received so far from Ebba Maersk, a 15,500TEU container ship, has been very positive."
"ShipManager will replace nine applications we use currently with one integrated, easier-to-learn, user-friendly and technically up-to-date application. |
